Reader’s theatre for 3 –a passionate scriptural celebration of the might and power of God combined with a prayerful plea for God’s mercy.

3 m 1 w - Two shepherds take us through the events of the birth of Christ.

From the Old Testament narrative of Abraham and Isaac to the crucifixion of Christ, this drama connects the ancient promises of Messiah to the ministry and death of Jesus. Scripted for a larger cast but many roles are non-speaking.

In 3 stand alone vignettes we see modern day heroes of the faith. In scene 1 (3 m 1 w), a waitress reaches out to a hungry homeless person. The hero in scene 2 (1 m 1 w) takes care of shut-ins and in scene 3 (4 m 3 w) the hero befriends the new kid who is trying to fit in. Casting is flexible.

Scripted for two people (and an off stage voice). Can be played by either gender. This sketch takes place in an office. A busy executive deals with pressure from his boss to disregard his commitments to home and church.

2 w (portraying the same person) – Anna acts as a narrator speaking to the audience while observing herself as a third person at an imaginary gravesite. She attempts to convey the long years of struggle after the loss of her mother. A drama of healing and hope. Comes with optional underscore by Jay Rouse.

2 m or w - An allegory representing a seeker who can’t understand why life has become so confusing and filled with regret, and a believer who knows and loves being in the presence of the Father. The believer becomes the mediator of grace as he invites the seeker to cross the bridge that Christ has built.

1 m or w - This is a monologue of a modern day Job. An honest look at pain, suffering and the questions that surround life’s struggles. In the midst of it, he learns that he can trust in the character of God.

3 m 5 w – This present day drama takes place during the Christmas season in the home of Margaret, a grandmother, long since widowed. Margaret’s children are estranged. Through the exploration of family relationships we see the faithful restorative heart of the Father.

1 m 1 w - Paul, a retired businessman regrets his past and the pain he caused his wife and family. His single-minded pursuit of worldly success is a lesson his now grown son seems to have learned well. He discusses with his wife how he can best help his son avoid the same mistakes.

2 m 3 w - A family is preparing for their church’s Christmas musical. Young Sarah lands a coveted role and they invite family members who don’t know the Lord. As they rehearse they come to realize that it is the Lord who will draw their family to Him and not their performance.

2 m 4 w - Julie, a single mom is working as a waitress in a new town. The struggles she faced growing up drew her away from her faith. When her son Max has a crisis at school, Julie finds love and support in an unlikely place and it draws her back to her faith.

3 m 3 w - This drama reprises the roles of Julie and Max and Gene from Forever Gloria. Single mom, Julie and her son Max have put down roots in their new town and begun attending a local church. With God gently leading, they come to experience His redemptive work in their lives as he seeks to heal wounds from their past.

Reader’s theatre - A compilation of scripture from The Message for 3 readers. A passionate call to worship to the God, who draws us, redeems us and changes us.

1 m 1 w - This sketch about the relationship between a father and his teenage daughter shows us a glimpse of the forgiving grace-filled nature of God with his children.

Scripted for 3  - The same God who stretches out the heavens seeks us. What then is our response to the one true and faithful God who wants to be known? Can be used as reader’s theatre or memorized using 2 actors coming out from the congregation to join the leader up front.

Reader’s theatre for 3 using various scriptures to highlight the concepts of  "honor",   "glorify" and "exalt", ending with the choir quoting Revelation 5:12 in a rousing declaration.

2 m – A young boy and his grandfather share quiet time together around a campfire. As they look at the stars their talk turns toward God’s indescribable creation.

3 m 3 w - A family who has gotten out of the habit of going to church is now stuck in the middle of a snowstorm while they are driving to see their former church’s Christmas presentation. As they deal with their situation, they come to realize they’ve missed what the church and Christ has to offer.

Scripted for 2 male or female. After a particularly dismal meeting two business partners discuss "what’s next?" A good reminder that God can use any circumstance to teach us and lead us.

Scripted for 2 male or could be adapted for 1 or 2 females. A busy executive struggles to balance his schedule and concludes that whatever else he’s doing, he needs to focus on Jesus and make time with him a priority.

2 to 6 m or w – Reader’s theatre, four short readings feature heroes of the faith: two from the past and two present day heroes. This piece is flexible and can be personalized to include a "hero" from your own church.

3 m 2 w (various extras in scene 2) – What were the thoughts and emotions of those friends and acquaintances who were present with Jesus the last week of his earthly life? In 4 scenes we see Jesus’ last visit with Mary and Martha, feel His passion as he evicts the moneychangers from the temple, and experience the hope and despair of those who witness his arrest and crucifixion.

2 narrators, 5 actors - A retelling of the narrative of Pentecost through a combination of scripture and dialogue. It recounts the birth of the church, the completion of the work of Christ, the Holy One indwelling us igniting the Kingdom life.

2 m 1 w (additional non-speaking roles) Slipping away from his retirement party, a man along with his wife reflect on their life in light of the goodness and faithfulness of God through the years.

5 m (various extras) - Set in Jerusalem, a traveling textile merchant, Samuel, and his apprentice, Benjamin, conduct business amidst the backdrop of the Passover celebration during the last week of Jesus’ life.

2 principle characters-m - 8 minor characters - This "play within a play" has a small downtown church preparing to present their annual Easter musical. When Rudy, an "on the edge" youth who has been not so gently encouraged to help out, is teamed up with Charlie, the church’s veteran custodian, he learns about the only friend he can ever truly count on.

4 m 1 w – The time is WWII and the Wallace family’s eldest son, JJ, is serving his country in the military somewhere in Italy. Through his letters back home we see his faith and courage in difficult circumstances.

3 m 2 w – When 8 year old Nicholas gets sick right before Christmas causing him to miss out on his class party his one consolation is that he gets to spend the evening with Sabba, his beloved grandfather. That evening, Sabba’s imaginative storytelling takes Nicholas on a journey that reveals the Christmas story to Nicholas in a brand new way.

2 m 3 w - Hoping to instill an understanding of the value and cost of freedom, the Smiths take their children along with their Aunt Bernice on a road trip across the country. The trip ends in a national cemetery where great aunt Bernice places flowers on the grave of her young husband who died many years ago defending the country during WWII. The Smith children get a first-hand example of the cost paid for their freedom.

5m 1 w (additional non-speaking roles) - Using the disciple Peter as narrator this drama takes a look at some events from the last week of Jesus’ life: the centurion who begs Jesus to heal his servant, the woman with the issue of blood, the Samaritan leper who returns to thank Jesus for his healing.

6 m 2 w - Robert Wallace is graduating high school. He surprises his beloved grandfather with the news that he has enlisted in the service with the hopes of serving in his grandfather’s old division. This story spans 3 generations of the Wallace family giving testimony to their heritage of faith and service.

6 m 1 w (various non-speaking roles) – A Jewish family struggling with the hardships of life come in contact with shepherds and wisemen which ultimately leads them to the stable where Jesus is born.

8 m 3 w - A story of two longtime high school friends and their families that examines what it means to be really at peace even in the midst of the unexpected twists of life.

7 - 9 minutes in length. 1 w – monologue. Taken from Luke 7:36, this monologue provides a fresh look into the heart of the woman who anointed the feet of Jesus.

9 m 2 w – Several short vignettes, flexible casting. Each scene looks at a different aspect of the Christmas story from the perspective of those who experienced it first hand: Two friends in a busy marketplace who encounter a pregnant Elizabeth, three shepherds, Mary and Joseph and the Magi.

1 m or w – A woman anguishes over her repeated failures. Then she remembers and receives the Scripture’s promise of grace, forgiveness and strength.

11 m 5 w - While vacationing on the east coast, the Sander’s family engages in a discussion about how and for what purpose America came into being. This drama incorporates "life scenes" featuring various founding fathers and colonial era persons.

4 m 1w, (additionally 1 PE teacher and 7 students of any gender) - A teacher chooses a unique way to teach her students lessons about faith, freedom and the origins of America by bringing in characters used in the community patriotic parade from the previous week.

Scripted for 1 W, 1 female child and an off stage voice. A wonderful allegory depicting Christ and His church as a Bridegroom and His bride. Sarah, a young bride-to-be, is alone in her room. She is reading a letter from her beloved. In the exchange of letters we see Christ's longing, pursuit and unconditional love for a forgiven bride.
